Spells and scrolls are essential to win fights in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and can be configured using hotkeys.

Casting Spells

Two of the casting methods are the slow method and the hotkey method. First, go to your scrolls or your magic tab. If you want to equip the Chameleon on Self, simply click it. When equipped, you will have a fist icon and the spell at the bottom right of your screen.

To cast the equipped spell, simply press the default cast button, C on the mouse and keyboard. On a controller, you'll have to look at the keybinds in the game settings and see which button casts a spell.

Remember that scrolls can be used only once in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Once used, they're gone.

Scroll Shortcuts

At the bottom of the screen is a shortcut display ability. By default, you turn this on on the mouse and keyboard using R. On controllers, the game will inform you which button to press.

This brings up a radial wheel of shortcuts. Choose the scroll or spell you wish to hotkey from the left and click a number key. If you choose number eight, eight will automatically switch you to that scroll as you exit the menu. You can then click another key, such as 4 to switch back to your fireball or 5 for a healing spell if you've already initialized.

Casting Regular Spells

For non-scroll magic, the same goes. Open your magic tab and activate a spell such as Lover's Power. With it activated, the C button will cast the spell in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

You can also bind them to keys. Go to the shortcuts screen, cast the spell or use the controller to cast the same thing, and press the number key to which you want to bind it. For instance, binding Minor Dispel to 4 allows you to press 4 to activate it and then C to cast.

Spell Types

Not all spells are used the same way. Many spells are self-targeted, like Minor Wounds, which will simply cast on yourself when used. Other spells, such as Flare, are ranged and shoot a projectile like a fireball at enemies.

Then there are touch spells. You'll need to get close—essentially melee range—for these to work. These spells function like fireballs, but you must be close to your target.
