If you've been keeping up with Dragon's Dogma 2, you already know the community has been hungry for more content since launch. Well, Capcom just held another showcase for Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, and while it wasn't exactly overflowing with brand new reveals or extended gameplay, it did answer some of the bigger questions fans have had and gave everyone a proper first look at some fresh footage worth talking about.

One of the standout moments from the showcase was the reveal of Lost Rites, a new endgame activity coming with Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. From what was shown, Lost Rites are essentially enclosed dungeon or raid-style challenges where you go up against beefed-up versions of enemies you've already fought in the base game.

This is no ordinary meeting since there is a red glow that seems to surround their head.

This has more of an effect on you than the encounters you met in the main game. There are going to be 12 of these dungeon challenges spread across the existing world map, each with rewards waiting inside, and honestly, this is exactly the kind of thing the base game was missing. If you put serious hours into Dragon's Dogma 2 already, you know how quickly the difficulty stops being a factor once you get strong enough.

Lost Rites looks like it's meant to fix that. Here's the fun part, though: the Dragon's Dogma 2 community already found all 12 of the doors linked to these dungeons about four months ago. A Reddit user named mapped out what are called Godsbane doors across the game world, and at the time, nobody could figure out what they were for since clicking on them did nothing.

They just sat there completely locked and inaccessible, driving people up the wall trying to crack them. Now that we know Lost Rites are coming in Dark Arisen, another community member also connected the dots and pointed out that those doors are almost certainly the entrances to these new dungeons. So the locations were hiding in plain sight the whole time.

Beyond the dungeon content, Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is also bringing new character customization options into the mix, specifically new hair and tattoo styles. Given that the expansion takes you to a new region called Norgan, which has a frozen tundra setting, a lot of these new options lean into a more rugged, Viking-inspired look. It fits the vibe of where the story is heading.

Speaking of story, Capcom also gave fans a proper look at who's behind Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen at the creative level.

Kento Kinoshita is leading the charge, and his history with the franchise runs deep. He was the gameplay lead on the original Dragon's Dogma and directed the first Dark Arisen expansion back in 2013, which was widely loved. He also directed Dragon's Dogma Online. Having him back for this expansion is a good sign because he clearly understands what makes this series work.

Kinoshita laid out three core pillars driving the expansion: enhanced gameplay, expanded adventures, and enticing value. These aren't just buzzwords either. Capcom has been listening to what players said about the base game, the complaints about a lack of challenge, not enough enemy variety, and a thin endgame and Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is being built as a direct response to all of that.

Lost Rites alone is a clear example of them taking that feedback seriously. The expansion is also being designed to work for both returning players who want new challenges and brand new players stepping into Dragon's Dogma 2 for the first time.

One of the more exciting mechanics coming with Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is the new relic system. This is how you're going to be building up power to take on the harder content in the expansion. The way it works, at least from what was shown, is that enemies drop items called Spoils when you defeat them, and you can take these to an NPC to have them appraised.

From there, you're pulling from a pool of gear that can roll different stats, abilities, and skill upgrades.

Spoils appear to come in at least three tiers, with higher-level enemies presumably dropping better ones. The relics themselves look like a significant jump in power over base game equipment. One example shown was a bow for the Magick Archer class called the Singular Sanguine Radiance Bow, which came loaded with three skills and visibly outclassed whatever the player had equipped before.

Even better, it looks like some of these gear pieces can roll upgraded versions of existing vocation skills. If you played the original Dark Arisen, you'll remember that upgraded skills were a big part of what made builds feel satisfying, and it seems like that system is making a return here. Some appraised items also appear to have a glow to them, which likely signals better rolls or higher rarity.

On the story side of Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, the showcase gave fans a better look at the Fallen Dragon, which is a kind of undead version of the dragon that's missing its heart, meaning the usual method of defeating it won't apply this time around. A mysterious character from the earlier trailer also got a name: Eir. She seems to be central to the expansion's story, having been pursuing the Fallen Dragon for reasons that haven't been revealed yet.

Alongside the expansion content, the base game is getting meaningful updates too. A larger patch is scheduled for August, and it's bringing some notable changes. Frame rate and performance improvements are coming across all platforms. Save slots are being bumped up to three. Active skill slots are increasing from four to six, which is a pretty significant shift in how you can approach combat.

Dragon's Plague is also getting some adjustments; infected pawns will apparently be more powerful, and a new item called the Dragonsbaulk Draught is being added to give you an easier way to deal with the affliction. For anyone who wants to get their hands on Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen before it launches, the first playable demo will be available at Gamescom in Germany.
