The first step in building in Solarpunk is to learn the Build Hammer and how the pieces fit together. This guide covers everything from setting up your base to decorating your interior.

Solarpunk Guide Setting Up Base

Getting Started With the Build Hammer

Press F anytime to retrieve the Build Hammer. After it is equipped, right click to bring up the building menu. From there you will be able to see all the wood building options available. Press E to cycle to glass pieces, and press E again to get to brick (which is available much later in the game).

Placing and Rotating Pieces

Left click to place a piece. If you are starting from scratch and want to change the height, press and hold T and drag the mouse up or down to the desired position. Press R to rotate a piece, and hold R and move the mouse to make finer adjustments. Hold right click and scroll through the styles for a given piece type.

Foundation and Upper Floors

The menu provides you with Foundation Pieces for the bottom level and upper floor pieces for a second story. A flat roof piece can be used as a substitute for a roof if you prefer to avoid having one altogether. Place your foundation pieces out first, rotating them as necessary to fit your layout.

Breaking and Fixing Pieces

If a piece ends up in a location you didn't want, use your Axe or Pick, right click, and select demolish. This can be done on any piece at any time, so don't be afraid to commit to a layout too early.

Windows and Walls

With Glass, you can add window pieces to your walls anywhere you like. The rest of the wall can be filled in with standard wood pieces. If you desire a porch area, leave an opening at the front.

Roof Options

Hold right click while the Build Hammer is out to browse the roof pieces available. Smaller wood roof pieces are placed lower and standard roof pieces are placed at full height. There are also sloped roof sections that allow you to create a real sloped roof around the entire structure.

There are also a couple of ways to close things off at the top with flat roof pieces, as you can access dormers and corners as well. Rotate roof pieces as with any other piece by pressing R. Close the ends with the smaller pieces and seal it with a matching piece in the middle.

Doors, Stairs and a Porch

Close off one of the openings in your wall with a Door to complete the enclosure of the structure. To create a porch in front, place a Fence around the perimeter. Place Stairs where desired and press V to adjust their height to the floor level.

Furniture and Decorations

To decorate or add utilities such as a Candle or a Campfire, open the building menu and search under decorations and utilities. Put them in or out as appropriate. You can light a candle after placing it.

Storage Inside the House

After researching, you will unlock Storage Shelves. Construct one and take it indoors. Then, organize your resources by type in the shelves to keep things neat and tidy.
