God of War 20th Anniversary Delivers…Nothing Exciting
PlayStation turned down all the God of War rumors. Instead of a remastered or new game announcement, we got free cosmetics and merchandise.

God of War will complete two decades after its inception on March 22, and PlayStation announces the celebration of this 20th Anniversary of the God of War franchise, featuring a concoction of in-game upgrades, special merchandise, and celebratory events. However, there is a severe lack of the highly anticipated God of War Remaster that has left fans completely stunned and disappointed.
The only thing that stood out from the 20th Anniversary was a free in-game God of War: Ragnarök update, Dark Odyssey Collection. This free update derives inspiration from the original working title of God of War (2005) and bears the black-and-gold theme that reminisces the old times. Later this year, a two-volume God of War: 20th Anniversary Retrospective Book will be released featuring developer interviews and a historical perspective of the brand.
In addition to this, PlayStation revealed an array of exclusive merchandise to mark the occasion. There are Cook and Becker 20th Anniversary Print Collection, a 67-inch World Serpent Plush, the Laced Records Vinyl Collection, a limited-run 13-disc set covering the series, and 20th Anniversary T-shirts. For God of War visual fans, the 20th Anniversary Gallery Nucleus Exhibition will be showcased in Los Angeles between March 15 and March 23.
It is, however, very disappointing since it is a disappointment that Sony hasn't made any official announcement regarding releasing the remastered compilation, despite widespread speculation and all kinds of rumors surrounding it. It left the fans incredibly frustrated; they had waited so long. This trait is significant in the original franchise. Several notable leak sources, including Tom Henderson, claimed that God of War might even come back in the Greek era with, most likely, a younger Kratos or the announcement of the next God of War game featuring Calliope, Kratos' Daughter.
All these rumors raised speculations about the remastered Greek Saga compilation, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Several comments were looking forward to a God of War Remaster compilation and God of War, possibly including the first three titles in the series, but the 20th Anniversary event does not appear to be the time when such an announcement is made. The rumors refer to leaks that turned out to be incorrect, with people speculating the remaster is still being worked on but not finalized for release yet.
It could be that the leakers on Reddit mistook the celebrations for the Anniversary and mixed up the anniversary logo with a God of War Remastered bundle. One user, probably referring to the above, said, "The rumors were probably about what people wanted to believe and not actual insider information". Others still hope that a future PlayStation Showcase will tell us more about the progress of the remaster.
Though the 20th Anniversary comes with a wave of content and events, many fans remain disheartened by the lack of a remastered bundle. Fans will simply have to wait and see if subsequent announcements on March 22 or at some other PlayStation Showcase rectify this long-standing demand.
