God of War Ragnarök is the Fastest-Selling PlayStation Game Ever

God of War Ragnarök released on 9 November 2022, but within one week it became the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation launch in PlayStation history, and it also pulled off a few other records. This also means that now that the first week is done, the game will likely just keep selling even more copies, but a game this great probably deserves it, right?

 

PlayStation announced the successful launch of their game on Twitter, and in doing so it announced three separate successes: God of War Ragnarök sold 5.1 million copies in its debut week, it is now the fastest-selling first-party launch, and it is a franchise record for the God of War series as a whole. This game has been a major success for Sony, PlayStation, and Santa Monica Studio.

The tweet also made sure to congratulate Santa Monica Studio for making the game the success that it was, and judging by the reviews that God of War Ragnarök got, this game probably deserves the massive praise it gets, the sales it has made, and also the nominations it received for The Game Awards.

Expect to hear more from the God of War developers over the next few years, who have already announced that there will be more in store for God of War, because a franchise this successful is not going to lie dormant forever. Now that God of War is back, it probably won’t fade away like the PS2/PS3-era games eventually faded away. A new story, a new world, a whole new set of possibilities for other games in the franchise to explore over the coming years.
