Sicily, Scars, and Scorsese vibes — Hangar 13's return to form is no mere flashback.

Now that Mafia: The Old Country is coming out in just two days, we can finally play it, and by the looks of it, it won't let us down. Hangar 13 shocked everyone by letting us see nine minutes of in-game footage. This is the best look we've had so far at the story-driven game that's coming out soon. The fifth part of the game can be seen in this gameplay movie.

To give you an idea of the mood, speed, and controls that make this Mafia game special, here it is. If you've been wanting the thrill of old-school organized crime, get ready, because Hangar 13 is taking us back to the start. Big changes are coming to Mafia: The Old Country. It has a new main character, a bold new vision, and a real promise to deliver everything Mafia III almost did, but cleaner, tighter, and full of Sicilian blood and honor.

Let's be honest. The bar has been set very high after Mafia III. In fact, Lincoln Clay's dog tags are hanging from the ceiling. It really hit home when a Vietnam veteran turned New Bordeaux into his own dark, anger-filled playhouse. The writing was honest. The city was full of life. It did have some problems, like task loops that were the same, side quests that were too long, and a sandbox where the toys sometimes got lost, but it was trying to be good. Why it mattered.

The Old Country needs to show something now. The first look at Gamescom 2024 taught us that Hangar 13 has been working on this project very slowly, for nine years. The scenery in Sicily that was rendered in Unreal Engine 5 did more than just look good. It looked gross. Every pebble spoke of history. Each olive tree? Movies.

But pictures are only the beginning.

This isn't just a fresh coat of paint on an old getaway car. There is a spiritual rising going on. Instead of making the map bigger like a grumpy Goomba, Hangar 13 is taking a step back. Story-driven, straight design is back on the menu. Don't bother with fluff. Put away your tired checklists. This experience is simple and focuses on the story. How the Mafia should be. How things were.

Here comes Enzo Favara, who will be the new face of the brand. But this isn't just another tough Italian-American trying to move up the food chain. Enzo starts out desperate, running away from forced labor with a history that is not only strewn with mistakes but also burned. He's not just mad. He's driven. And Enzo's story might be about loyalty, while Lincoln's was all about getting even. That he owed something to the family that saved him from the fire.

That stress? That duality? That's the sweet sauce.

Hangar 13 might be able to make the most emotionally powerful Mafia story yet if they can get this right. The kind of experience that gives you more than just action and attitude—real, character-driven drama with bite. From what we've seen, they don't follow trends either. They are making tradition better.

This game is more like "Scorsese's greatest hits, playable" than "open world checklist." Traitors. Being brothers. Honor. Dirt. The slow rise of criminal kings and queens in a world that doesn't know the rules yet but knows how to hurt when they're broken.

It's not trying to make something new. It makes the chrome shine so brightly that you can see every scar in the mirror.
