Naughty Dog's Mystery Game: A Possible Uncharted Remake!

Apparently, Naughty Dog is working on other projects apart from The Last of Us Part 3 and Intergalactic.

Naughty Dog, one of the most talented studios behind many of PlayStation's most popular games, has apparently been quietly creating a new title for three years now. The unknown project is being led by Shaun Escayg, who is known for his work on Marvel's Avengers and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, among other games. Daniel RPK, an industry insider who leaked the beans on his Patreon page, leaked this information.

Before everyone starts going crazy and believing it is The Last of Us Part 3, let us slow down. It isn't the case. Naughty Dog hasn't said anything about whether a follow-up to The Last of Us Part 2 is, in fact, in the works; there have been many speculations flying around. One of the studio's co-presidents, Neil Druckmann, recently implied in an interview that fans should not just assume a done deal for The Last of Us Part 3. Later, however, it was leaked that Naughty Dog is, in fact, working on The Last of Us Part 3, and the development has progressed to a decent stage.

Since the studio hasn't officially announced anything, the future of that series remains undetermined for the time being. That implies Naughty Dog is most likely concentrating on something totally different. And that "something" could be exactly what Shaun Escayg is whipping up. Particularly given his long association with the Uncharted franchise, his participation is somewhat noteworthy.

Naughty Dog has not worked on Uncharted since Uncharted: The Lost Legacy years ago, but a rumored remake of the original Uncharted—Drake's Fortune —has stirred a lot of talk. Nothing has been verified yet, but could it imply a revival of one of PlayStation's most famous series? Considering Sony's shift in strategy from live-service games to single-player games, this is very much a possibility.

There's, however, more to consider. Naughty Dog also revealed yet another major project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, at The Game Awards in December 2024. Still, don't get overly excited just yet; sources indicate the game will not be out until 2027 and is likely to be a PlayStation 6 launching title. Indeed, it's a long wait. So, fans obviously want something sooner rather than later.

Here is the catch: Naughty Dog is not precisely keeping things simple. They are handling many large projects at once, and we already know not every studio employee is working on Intergalactic. A brief look at their LinkedIn page reveals that some people are obviously occupied with other projects; therefore, another significant title could be on the way.

Shaun Escayg, too, could be directing that mysterious assignment. His background shouts cinematic storytelling and action-driven game design—the sort of thing Naughty Dog is well known for— after a brief stint at Crystal Dynamics as a creative director, he returned to Naughty Dog. One thing is clear: Naughty Dog is not about to slow down, regardless of how little we know about this new game yet.

Given several projects in development and a history of producing some of the most unforgettable video game narratives, we can only expect more information to be released soon. Along with all the Uncharted fans, I, too, hope that this project is relevant to Uncharted. Considering Shaun's history and all the rumblings of a possible Uncharted Reboot or Uncharted Remake, I would enjoy seeing the show take on something fresh, such as a reimagining of the first games.

Consider how Santa Monica Studio completely transformed the God of War franchise in 2018 while preserving its fundamental essence. Should Naughty Dog be able to repeat this feat with Uncharted, it would be truly remarkable. Uncharted is definitely among the finest series I have ever played on PlayStation.
