Fans who have been following for a long time noticed this change right away. When people logged into the game after the change, they saw Operation Metro on the main screen, which they had seen before, not as a certified copy, but as a fan-made Portal game that all of a sudden got a lot of attention.

When you did this one thing, a custom map that wasn't used very often became a full, busy battlefield almost overnight. People who play Battlefield have known about Operation Metro for a long time. It's famous for its tight halls, sticky spots, smoky chaos, and epic Conquest battles that people will never forget.

In a new update for Battlefield 6, a small but important change was made.

It had been around for a while but wasn't getting many users. It was made through Battlefield Portal by a community artist named Bellum. It was easy to see why: one-of-a-kind Portal events don't usually catch on without being seen. Once Battlefield put it on the main screen, things were different.

It made matching people almost instantaneous once it was added. There were no empty servers or journeys by yourself for the players. They were instead put into a 32v32 Conquest match. Real people took almost all of the spots; only a few bots showed up to fill out teams. It was easy to see that something had changed right away.

There is a lot of what Operation Metro is all about in the remake. From the famous locker rooms and choke points to the flanking routes and locker rooms, the plan quickly makes you remember how to move. You know where you are as soon as you spawn. You can't miss the mood, and it makes you feel very strong.

What looked like an empty map before was now full of life, chaos, and Metro. It feels the same to trade grenades in small rooms, wait for a revive in a smoke-filled hallway, and push through tight hallways while being shot at all the time. The event has some bad points. There is no doubt that the server runs at 30 Hz because it uses unique Portal code.

During times of high stress, it feels a little slow to move, switch guns, and record hits. The responsiveness isn't as good as it usually is in Battlefield 6. There are lag spikes when there is a lot of shooting. Another thing that can go wrong with custom modeling is lighting, which can make some areas look off or be hard to read.

Progress is another big problem: People don't get all of their XP from games.

You only get a 150% bonus when you finish a match. You don't get normal XP, unlocks, or progress on challenges. People who want to level up, get new gear, or keep track of their long-term progress will not like this at all. We can feel the worry right away. When you're used to getting rewards after every match, it can feel like time has stopped.

The computer is still full after all of this. Fun is still being had. That says it all. You learn very quickly that memories can beat progress, if only for a short time. A lot of the people who join these matches are already very high level, some over 300, and don't care about XP. They can see why it's appealing: it's Metro. That's enough proof to go ahead.

We know how important it is to be seen because we've been there. As soon as Battlefield told this story, people reacted, not because of community planning, Discord servers, or people working together to make material. It only took place because the game pushed people to do it. That one option did what weeks or months of hosting by hand couldn't.

The version of Portal also has some smart touches that make it more fun. It has clear goals on a unique mini-map, and the Conquest flags are set up in a way that keeps the flow that is Metro's style. There are some flaws, but it's clear that a lot of care and thought went into making it. Inside Portal's limits, you can feel how many hours of work went into making it better.

Also, it's great that Battlefield isn't afraid to show off a mod made by the community, even if it's not as perfect as official content. Battlefield 6 has better graphics than this version of Metro, and there are bugs in how it spawns, how it deploys, and how it works with the UI. However, the game doesn't try to hide it; instead, it celebrates it. That decision looks like it's important.

There is no way to hide the fact that this method isn't perfect.

A lot of people hate not getting all of their XP. Some people will move on quickly if they don't want to try it out or feel nostalgic. These days, progress is important in online games, and for a long time, games without it have been less fun to play. Still, the fact that people are ready to put up with these issues just to play Metro again says a lot.

This is also a sign of a bigger issue with how Battlefield matches people and looks through sites. Many players don't look at unique sites because they've never been shown the right way to do it. Players shouldn't think about using a server browser for legal matches because they don't need one. By adding this map right away, Battlefield gets around that whole situation.

You should also think about the mental side. If you were the one who made this map and put in a lot of time and effort to make a well-known experience with few tools, you would quickly find that it was full of people. When a whole server likes something you made, it must feel great. This moment shows that the Portal idea and the fancy work that went into making it are real.

Still, this looks like it's good for the game overall. People who make games and people who play them get closer, and it helps people remember why they love Battlefield in the first place. Even though there is lag, lost XP, and other technical problems, the experience gives players a moment to remember old times on the battlefield that many official playlists don't.

If you want to play Operation Metro in Battlefield 6, now is the best time to do so. The only thing that can really compare to an official remake of Portal is this improved version. But I don't think that will ever happen. Players can now enjoy the chaos again because the computers are back up and running. Matching goes quickly. Okay, that's all for now. To remember why Battlefield is fun, sometimes all you need is an old map, a full server, and the sound of guns firing through the tunnels below.
