PlayStation State of Play and TGS Bring Major Surprises
Wolverine, Yakuza, and a stacked 2026 lineup steal the spotlight.
News by Warlord on Sep 26, 2025
Typically, after a PlayStation State of Play, the entire conversation would revolve around that showcase alone. But this week is a little different. With the TGS also dropping its own wave of announcements, there's simply too much happening.
Between new reveals, remasters, release dates, and even a long-awaited look at Insomniac's Wolverine, let's get you up to speed on what's happening.

Yakuza Steals the Spotlight at TGS
Kicking things off with the RGG showcase at TGS, the rumors turned out to be absolutely spot-on. Yakuza Kiwami 3 has officially been announced, and while the remake itself is big enough news, the real surprise came in the form of an additional story chapter called Dark Ties. RGG isn't just dusting off an old classic; we're getting new content.
Of course, as exciting as this is, we have already spotted problems with the Western translation. A few important dialogues appear to have been mistranslated. The game's slated for release on February 12 across all major platforms, including the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Director's Cut and Remakes Keep the Series Alive
On top of that, Yakuza Zero is making its way back into the spotlight with a Director's Cut. Following its timed exclusive release on Switch 2, this upgraded version is now heading to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on December 8. The Director's Cut adds extras like a full English dub.
Although it doesn't appear that there will be an upgrade path for existing owners. That decision also extends to Kiwami 1 and 2, which are being bundled together for a fresh re-release on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
A Mixed Bag of Surprises at State of Play
Once the Yakuza news wrapped up, the attention shifted to PlayStation's State of Play, and the event itself was a bit of a mixed bag. It started strong, got a little boring, and finished with a bang.
The opener, a brand-new game called Saros from Housemarque, immediately grabbed attention. Fans of Returnal will feel right at home, as the game builds on that same roguelike, arcade-inspired DNA.
With lessons learned from their first AAA project, Housemarque has doubled down on the fast-paced style that made Returnal unique, while adding in new features like a shield system to shake things up. Saros is arriving sooner than expected, landing on March 20, 2026.

Nioh 3 and Code Vein 2 Lead Early 2026
Just before that, another heavy hitter was revealed: Nioh 3. Team Ninja confirmed a February 6, 2026, launch, and considering their track record, it's impressive how much content they've managed to push out in recent years.
From Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty to Rise of the Ronin and even a new Ninja Gaiden, the studio has been on a roll. For fans of the Souls-like genre, Nioh 3 is going to be one to watch.
Bandai Namco unveiled gameplay for Code Vein 2. The first game had its flaws, but it built a loyal fan base. With a release date locked in for January 30, 2026, it joins the growing list of early-year releases. Additionally, GTA 6 is set to dominate May, so you can expect a packed 2026.
Flight Simulator Lands on PlayStation
Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2024 debuted at State of Play, marking another milestone for the new multi-platform era. An Xbox-developed game spotlighted during a PlayStation showcase would have been unthinkable even a few years ago. PlayStation guys will be able to hop into the cockpit when it lands on PS5 this December.
Deus Ex Remastered Brings a Classic Back
Another standout moment was the reveal of Deus Ex Remastered. It has been a long time since fans have seen anything new from the franchise; at least this project will give the new generation a chance to experience the classic. The studio behind several solid remasters, including Tomb Raider and Soul Reaver, is handling the project.
Gran Turismo 6 is celebrating a massive milestone with its biggest update yet, scheduled for release this December. Having officially surpassed 100 million units sold across the franchise, Polyphony Digital is marking the occasion with new tracks and cars.

Insomniac Finally Unleashes Wolverine
Wolverine, of course, had the last act of the program. After a long time, Insomniac finally revealed gameplay for their forthcoming Marvel game. People soon put their worries about the studio toning things down to rest when they saw the film, which showed a vicious fighting system full of brutality that fits the character.
The combat shares DNA with Insomniac's Spider-Man games. Wolverine's design is sharp, and his claws are even sharper. Considering the controversy Insomniac faced with character choices in Spider-Man 2 and their connection to Sweet Baby Inc., there's bound to be drama around design. Regardless, the gameplay looks slick.
2026 Is Shaping Up to Be a Monster Year for Gaming
The State of Play and TGS both made a lot of big announcements this week, making it one of the most exciting weeks in a long time. PlayStation already has a lot of great games coming out in 2026, and with GTA 6 on the list, it's going to be a huge year for gaming.
