A blast from the past, a new Micro Machines is in the works and coming shortly. Micro Machines World Series will launch for Xbox One, PC and PS4 with updated HD visuals. While some press releases and assets out there are vaguer about a release window in Spring or April of 2017, a trailer for publisher Koch Media France highlights the exact date: April 21, 2017. This is corroborated by a European press release from publisher Codemasters.

Micro Machines World Tour

Micro Machines World Series will have the same action of yore, with vehicles racing across countertops, pool tables and so on. In addition to Race and Elimination mode, the new iteration will add Battle Arenas to duke it out, as well as competitive and cooperative options like Capture the Flag and King of the Hill. It is possible to play some of these multiplayer modes with artificial intelligence (AI) vehicles, for those worried about lifespan. Online holds up to 12 players, while it will be possible to play locally with 4 players on the same screen. Cars will be able to make use of load-outs, which include weapons and abilities, so it’s not just straight racing. A short teaser trailer can be seen below:

Micro Machines World Series might not bank on the same nostalgia levels as other reboots. The series was a pretty set point in time. In the following years, plenty of arcade racers inspired by the franchise have come and gone, mostly without much of a bang. It does sound like Codemasters is banking on some serious multiplayer fun, which is exactly where the strengths of this chaotic series lie.
