The announcement by Capcom of Resident Evil Requiem, which is generally known as Resident Evil 9, has sparked a groundswell of excitement that's already turning into measurable anticipation within the survival horror community. Since it was officially announced at Summer Game Fest, the game has been added to more than a million wishlists on digital stores. This is a huge number for a game that is still just starting to get promoted.

This level of early involvement shows not only brand loyalty but also a strong desire for a new chapter in one of the most famous gaming franchises. In a statement made to X (formerly Twitter), Capcom acknowledged the huge support from fans by writing, "Requiem for the dead." Nightmare for the more than a million people who put it on their wish list—thank you. The way the phrase is put together cleverly nods to the franchise's gory past while also recognizing how many fans are eagerly anticipating what comes next.

At the center of all the excitement are a lot of interesting stories and unconfirmed details that keep people guessing. One of the most important is that Leon S. Kennedy might come back as an available character. Leon is still a fan favorite. He was first seen in Resident Evil 2 and played a big role in later games like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 6. His return would not only make people feel nostalgic, but it would also help connect storylines that have been going on for decades in Resident Evil.

Although Capcom hasn't confirmed that he will be in the game, a number of sources say that he probably will be, possibly as a secondary playable protagonist. The background of how the game was made is also very interesting. According to sources, the Resident Evil leaks suggest that Resident Evil 9 took a big turn in a new direction. His stories suggest that Capcom initially attempted a more experimental, open-world multiplayer format.

That idea was eventually thrown out in favor of a more focused, story-driven, single-player experience. This is a style that really resonates with long-time fans, who believe the series' best features are its well-tuned horror pacing and atmospheric storytelling. It appears that the decision to shift the project's direction in 2021 has brought it back to its core franchise values, which include psychological tension, intimate exploration and memorable character arcs.

This shows that Capcom isn't just trying to be new for the sake of being new. Instead, they're putting the next game in the same style that made Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village popular with both critics and players. Resident Evil Requiem is said to take inspiration from Southeast Asian folklore for its scary new setting. It is expected to take the series' visual accuracy and story depth even further.

Using Capcom's own RE Engine, the game is likely to offer not only next-generation performance but also highly immersive horror scenarios that boost the series' signature mix of fear and discovery. Capcom has also stated that more information about Resident Evil Requiem will be shown at their next Capcom Spotlight event.

The event, which is set for Thursday evening, will give a detailed look at several of the studio's most popular games, such as new information on Pragmata and the long-awaited Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Fans of Resident Evil should be able to get their first good look at Requiem's gameplay, environment design, and maybe even story direction at this demo.

This level of continued interest, almost four years after Resident Evil Village, shows that the series has a rare ability to stay relevant in a field that changes quickly. As of March 2024, over 146 million copies of all Resident Evil games had been sold around the world. It is still one of Capcom's most profitable and creative products. If Requiem lives up to the standards set by its predecessors, it could make the series even more famous as the standard for modern survival horror.

At the moment, there is a lot of talk about who the main character will be and how the story will change after what happened in RE: Village. Does Capcom plan to keep using a first-person view? Could there be more to Ethan Winters' story? What part might characters from the past play, like Chris Redfield or Claire Redfield?

As the excitement grows and new details become available, one thing is for sure: Resident Evil Requiem is about to change what people expect once more. It has a great mix of new scary elements with old characters and themes, which makes it likely to be one of the most talked-about games of the year it comes out. Fans won't have to wait long to find out if this entry lives up to the legendary tradition it inherits. It will be shown off at the Capcom Spotlight, and a 2025 release date has been rumored.
