The absence of Harry Potter in Hogwarts Legacy was a major critique, although the game nonetheless managed decent revenues for Warner Bros. Games. With 30 million copies sold as of last month, Warner Bros. was motivated by the solid reception from Potter fans and also released the Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions.
The LEGO Harry Potter Collection, too, received a remaster. But these weren't enough to please the fans, and it has long been acknowledged that they were seeking something more from Hogwarts Legacy.
We recently heard that Warner Bros. was giving Hogwarts Legacy 2 their full attention. They announced that the developer team working on the open-world game's sequel is collaborating with the writers and producers of the next Harry Potter HBO series on the narrative for both projects.
At the same time, a Director's Cut of Hogwarts Legacy is even in the works; it's expected to be released in 2025 and will feature additional DLC. Like a sort of Director's Cut of Hogwarts Legacy, the Definitive Edition will feature ten to fifteen hours of extra content. Possibly, that material will serve as a prequel to Hogwarts Legacy 2 and the following game in the series, and it may even provide the groundwork for the Harry Potter HBO series.
Furthermore, Warner Bros. Games provided an update regarding Hogwarts Legacy 2, which likewise intended to continue the wizarding in a future installment. Among Warner Bros. Discovery's top priorities is the development of a new Hogwarts Legacy game, and the studio has already licensed the IP for a number of mobile games set in the wizarding world.
Officially, the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series—an adaptation of the Harry Potter books—will include Hogwarts Legacy as material. In turn, this will serve as a prelude to the HBO series, and Hogwarts Legacy 2 will increase the scope of that law by expanding upon that game. Now that the game is official to the HBO series, there's really no need to launch a Hogwarts Legacy spinoff, which effectively ends the speculation about one.
Even though there were speculations of selling off Warner Bros. Games or part of the games division, several sources verified that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is currently in production at Warner Bros. Games. Keeping port-key games and making more Hogwarts Legacy IP, which can now serve as a counterpart to the new HBO series, appears to be more logical.
However, Warner Bros. is still considering licensing out some of its IPs to developers who would like to create experiences based on their franchises, including Harry Potter, in light of recent comments by David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, and the news that Warner Bros. is selling off the game division.
Perhaps they will collaborate with other developers in the same way that they do with their mobile games; for instance, they have licensed the Harry Potter IP so that other developers can make games set in the wizarding universe of Harry Potter. Since Warner Bros is currently investing extensively in developing the Harry Potter universe, we are sure to see more of it in the future.
