Wolverine & PlayStation-Exclusive Games Trigger Xbox Fans

From Spider-Man to Ghost of Tsushima, PlayStation-exclusive games silence Xbox critics, Wolverine is just the next chapter in this deja vu cycle.

Although the volume is high, the beat is familiar. Certain Xbox users promptly resort to social media to ridicule whenever a new PlayStation-exclusive game is revealed. Wolverine is the target this time around because of the weight that name has for Insomniac. Metaphors materialize. The rumor spreads. A sense of defeat pervades the tone. However, the subsequent turn can be anticipated.

The evidence from history is overwhelming. Before its 2016 release, Spider-Man was criticized for being overdone. Years later, in 2022, it made its PC debut, and the same critics proclaimed it to be the pinnacle of superhero video games.

Similar to how God of War was mocked until it exceeded expectations, its skeptics were later won over with adulation. Then there was Ghost of Tsushima, which, due to its positive reviews, dispelled rumors that it was a rip-off of a samurai film. Every time, it's the same plot.

The earlier you leave, the better it seems. The tone shifts, though, once the reviews are out and some sites reach the 90s and some dissect the technological genius. Respect replaces skepticism.

The focus is more on the competitive nature of console gaming than on the games themselves. Request becomes rejection. The same individuals then begin inquiring about PC versions, ports, and the availability of Game Pass. It's as if fan culture is a case of deja vu.

Also, issues are cropping up in the Xbox ecosystem. There has been a lack of satisfactory results from recent first-party efforts. Upon its initial release, Redfall was flawed. The uninspiring planets and exploration were major complaints leveled against Starfield. Due to multiple restarts, a definitive release date for Perfect Dark is unknown. Nobody in the pipeline is as well-known as Spider-Man or Wolverine. The devastation is palpable.

At the Tokyo Game Show, Xbox showcased new games, but the plot was still convoluted. Major news broke when Forza Horizon 6 was unveiled, and it was later revealed that PlayStation 5 would also be getting the game. The boundary between privilege and equality becomes more apparent. Forza is now just another facet of Sony's ecosystem, rather than an indicator of your identity.

This was proven by the showcase itself. Just about every major game releasing this year will also be available on PlayStation, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Ninja Gaiden 4, Dragon Quest XII, Age of Mythology, Fatal Frame II Remake, Gungrave Gore, and Double Dragon Revive. Those who possess consoles won't really notice the difference. What many considered an Xbox triumph may really have been little more than a preview of PlayStation's wares.

This duality is the driving force behind Wolverine's appeal. Public criticism masks private enthusiasm. Instead of fixing the flaws in your own platform, you can just chuckle at the expose. Respect, however, returns once the smoke clears and the evaluations begin to pile up. What was once a jest becomes a wish. The cycle continues, and with each iteration, the outcome becomes more predictable.

More importantly, PlayStation's exclusive titles continue to have a global impact on popular culture. More than merely products, these games serve as benchmarks for the industry in terms of story quality, game design, and technical excellence. Despite sharing the same infrastructure and services, Xbox has failed to establish a consistent rhythm. Until then, the commentary surrounding each PlayStation release will remain mired in a rut.

Players can more easily make a selection. When you own a PlayStation, you get access to exclusive first-party games as well as third-party games that are released worldwide. The forthcoming slate emphasizes this equilibrium. In addition to the upcoming Wolverine and Spider-Man titles, PlayStation owners will also have access to the same cross-platform games.

The narrative is continuing to be shared despite the abundance of online chatter. In the depths of every joke lies the subtle acknowledgment of something being absent. Every critique implies the necessity of admission in the future. Showcase after showcase confirms what everyone already knows: PlayStation-exclusive titles dominate industry discourse even among those who would prefer to ignore the fact.
