Final Fantasy XVI includes a variety of formidable weaponry for You, Rosfield, to wield throughout his time in Valisthea. While many of the game's most powerful weapons will be easy to obtain, others will need you to put in some effort before adding them to their arsenal. A special set of weapons, which are only available in Final Fantasy XVI's late-game portion, can be obtained by completing a series of tasks for Blackburn the Blacksmith.

Before you can begin plotting the process of obtaining Excalibur, he must complete the task "Out of the Darkness." This will occur shortly after the events at Dragon's Fang as you go battle against Titan. "Out of the Darkness" will have multiple short missions, including all three "Letting Off Steam" quests. After completing all three objectives for Mid, you will be able to start the side quest that leads to Excalibur.

Earlier in the game, you had the opportunity to assist Blackthorne with some personal issues in a side task titled "Blacksmith Blues." When You finish "Letting Off Steam III," you will find a note in his chambers that starts the quest "Blacksmith's Blues II." The plans for Excalibur will be the reward for finishing this side quest.

How to Complete Blacksmith's Blues II

Just like the first mission, this one begins with the blacksmith's friend August enlisting your assistance. He is concerned that his friend is losing interest in the skill and asks you to intercede again. After receiving this information in the letter, you will meet with Blackthorne in person. This time, the blacksmith encounters a sword with an edge so keen that it baffles him. It will be up to you to resolve this.

  • Following Blackthorne, you must talk with Charon. She'll tell you that he needs to go to a man named Ignac in Dalimil. The best fast-travel site is the Obelisk near the Dalimil Inn.
  • Ignac is located in a small tavern with a scorpion sign above the door, upstairs in a private area. Walking up the stairs will trigger a cutscene.
  • Ignac's servant will inform you that they were robbed and that the sword he is hunting for has been gone. You agree to go pursue the outlaws in exchange for time with the royal family.
  • Head out into the Velkroy Desert and use the Obelisk of the same name. The bandits are in the northern part of the desert. The journey will be considerably easier if you unlock Final Fantasy XVI's faithful Chocobo, Ambrosia.
  • You will stumble and discover a camp with several enemy bandits. The sole true threat is the Innkeeper, a gigantic, human-like foe. Fortunately, assuming you have made it this far in the game, nothing here will pose a significant problem. These gigantic human enemies appear to be especially vulnerable to the Titan's Eikonic abilities.
  • You agree to return Ignac's bags in exchange for the Sundered Whetstone. Return to Blackthorne's Hideaway to finish the assignment. This will award Clive the Excalibur Design Draft.
