Vambraces are the different armors in Final Fantasy XVI that grant offense, defense, or enhanced abilities to Clive. These are obtained through crafting, upon completion of a quest, or after defeating specific enemies. Each one of these vambraces bears different characteristics, so it is important to collect them through different combats.
Basic Vambraces
Bronze Vambrace
The Bronze Vambrace is one of the very first vambraces available to you. It provides a slight boost to Clive's defense, and it is, therefore, suitable for the initial phases of the game.
You usually get this vambrace in the main storyline after defeating the first important boss. You just need to progress through the initial missions, and you will be rewarded for your efforts.
Iron Vambrace
The Iron Vambrace comes shortly after the Bronze Vambrace. It is obtained by doing the side quest "Steel Resolve," which is located in the Lostwing region.
This requires you to be able to find a rare type of metal for the blacksmith. Once it is completed, you will get the Iron Vambrace. You can also find it in some shops if you progress further into the storyline.
Mid-Tier Vambraces
Mythril Vambrace
The Mythril Vambrace provides a decent boost to defense and a minor boost in attack. This will require the defeat of the notorious mark in the Hunt Board, The Griffin. This is a mid-tier enemy located in the southeastern plains of Rosaria.
For defeating this mark, the Mythril Vambrace is one of your rewards. Otherwise, you can buy it later in the game from Charon's Toll if you never got it by completing the Hunt reward.
Steel Vambrace
To get the Steel Vambrace, you only need to progress through the story until you reach the Velkroy Desert. Contained within is one of the most challenging dungeons known as the Sandswept Cavern.
The Steel Vambrace is in a chest in the depths of the cavern. You will want to watch out for powerful monsters and natural hazards in this region.
High-Tier Vambraces
Dragonhide Vambrace
This imposing vambrace requires extremely rare materials, the rarest of which is the Dragonhide from the Drake Wyvern, a formidable, high-level foe found in the Ashen Forest.
To create the Dragonhide Vambrace, head to Blackthorne, a skilled blacksmith in the Hideaway. Have all the needed crafting materials ready, including the Dragonhide and a fat sum of Gil.
Obsidian Vambrace
The Obsidian Vambrace is the reward for completing the rather challenging side quest "Shadow of the Fallen." This side quest shows up later in the game and requires you to kill several highly elite enemies.
Pay attention to the Hunt Board so you don't miss this one. As a reward, you will receive the Obsidian Vambrace, which offers great attack and defense bonuses.
Legendary Vambrace
Eternal Vambrace
The Eternal Vambrace is actually one of the most sought-after items in the game. You'll receive it after completing the ultimate side quest, "Legacy of the Flame," which becomes available only after you've finished the main storyline.
This will involve revisiting key locations, complex puzzles, and a final boss. When equipped, it provides unparalleled bonuses for all of Clive's stats. As such, it's essential for those who want to complete the game.
Celestial Vambrace
The Celestial Vambrace is located in a secret dungeon known as the Hall of Ancients. To access this dungeon, you need to acquire all 12 Ancient Sigils that are hidden around Valisthea.
Some of these sigils are in treasure chests that require you to solve riddles to open them, while others are obtained after defeating rare marks. You'll be able to access the Hall of Ancients after collecting all the sigils on the map. You'll also find some of the most hard-hitting enemies in this area.
