Soulmask presents a different kind of challenge for newcomers; it's not your typical game, and certain aspects can be a bit annoying. Here's a collection of tips to help you get a better understanding of things right from the beginning.

Tips to get Started

Avoid jumping into a public server unless you're prepared to invest a significant amount of time. It is better to play alone with your own settings so you can change them whenever you want.

Your first mask does not matter much because the perks at the bottom are the only difference. You will find better masks by the time you can pick the skills that really count.

When you start in the forest, follow the guide. It is different from other games and will show you how to find ruins and recruit more than three people for your camp. However, do not build your bonfire in the starting area.

It is a bad spot and hard to leave. Instead, run west and build near a portal, water, and a tribal camp. This area also has mines, which are important in Soulmask.

You can level up quickly without fighting. Just chop trees, mine stones, and work at tables. You can even craft things while you move and explore, and you will still get experience points. To see more of the map, find a scout camp and mark it by hitting V.

Get a scout's health low until you can interrogate them with E. This will reveal the area but still leave things for you to find.

Recruiting and Followers

You recruit tribesmen by feeding them broth or soup once they reach 500 Recognition Points. You do not have to stand near them while they earn points.

You can leave them on the ground and do other things, but make sure to feed them a bit before you go. If you are in a village, put them in a bed to earn points faster. Once they hit 500, recruit and deploy them so they follow you.

The world is big, so get an Alpaca as soon as you can. You can find them in tribal camps. Just pick one up and tell it to follow you home in Soulmask.

Your followers do not need their own mounts; if you go fast, they will just appear behind you. Your animals will do this too. Mounts do not get attacked in PvE fights, so they are safe.

To ride an Alpaca, you need a saddle from the Armor Forging Table. When you use a portal, do not stay on your mount.

Get off and tell it to follow you so it goes through the portal with you. To give water to animals, use a Water Bucket as a tool and hit E near the trough. For your people, build a Dining Table and fill it with food so they can feed themselves.

Exploring and Combat

It is often better to attack camps for gear instead of making your own. You can find legendary bronze armor on leaders in ancient ruins.

You can even farm these leaders for different masks by saving and loading the game. If you do this, remember to redeploy your tribesmen because they will stop following you when you load.

Always take tribesmen with you when you explore. They are very strong and make fighting easier. Use the same ones often to build their skills.

Your main character has a cap on skills—60 for production and 90 for combat—but other characters you find will have higher caps. You can possess them when you need a specific skill. If a character's name is Red, they are Legendary and very valuable.

Advanced Survival

If a good tribesman dies after you reach level 35, you can revive them. Make sure your settings allow them to keep their levels. You will need to clear the Ancient Ruins Dungeon and beat three bosses to unlock this.

To find that dungeon, follow the cliffs from the portal until you find a cave on the right. Bring a mount with extra space and make sure your team has Hammers or Gauntlets to damage the enemies inside in Soulmask.

Always carry a bed with you so you can sleep anywhere. If you run out of energy in the wild, you will be stuck. You should also save your game manually and regularily. You can turn on a setting so your items spawn at your respawn point when you die, which saves you a long trip back to your body.

Base Management

You can upgrade buildings by hitting E and choosing the upgrade option. For work tables, you have to use the Building Workshop.

If your tribesmen have no tasks, make sure you placed a marker on the map by hitting R. They will then go there, get resources, and sort them into chests at home.

To keep tools fixed, build a Repair Bench and set it to auto-repair. Your people will put broken tools in a chest, and a worker at the bench will fix them and put them back. Just make sure to set the durability level you want for the repairs in Soulmask.
