A donkey can be a real asset on your travels, particularly in the desert. They resemble alpacas, yet they're built to shoulder heavier burdens. However, before you even think about bringing one home, you'll need to get a handle on their natural environment, what they eat, and the best methods for capturing them.

Locating Donkeys
Donkeys can be found in different places across the map. One good spot is near the boss pyramid at Three River Junction in the south. You can also find them very early on in the ruins area of Sunset Bay.
If you travel further south in Sunset Bay, look for a family of donkeys living near the big trees on the largest island. Another option is to check the coastal dunes on the southern border, near the copper area in Soulmask.
Gathering Food and Gear
Donkeys love to eat Figs. You can find these at a large barbarian camp in Moon Bay. Look for Figs growing in the garden patches or search through boxes and chests inside the camp. You can also smash jars to find Fig Seeds.
To capture a young donkey, you'll need to build a Medium Trap. You can find this in the Animal Breeding section of the Bonfire menu. Use a building table to make it with Hardwood, Plank, Thatch, and Thick Rope.

The Taming Process
Once you find a donkey you want, look for the parents nearby. You must get rid of the adult donkeys and any other nearby animals, like Boar, or they might trigger the trap instead. Place your Medium Trap on the ground and put one Fig inside.
The young donkey, upon entering, triggers the flap's descent. Choose the option to capture it rather than dismantling the trap. You can then pick it up or have it follow you home in Soulmask.
Another Way to Get a Donkey
You can also find baby donkeys kept in pens inside barbarian camps. The Barbarian Barracks in the River Delta is worth a look. If you spot any babies in the pen, they're yours for the taking.
Before you make your move, though, it's wise to eliminate any hostile forces nearby. This way, you can escort your new pet to safety. If the pen is populated solely by adults, feel free to clear them out and check back later for the arrival of new babies.

Raising and Riding Your Donkey
When you get your donkey home, keep it in a safe spot near a trough for food and water. You can feed it figs and offer it water from a bottle. When it's fully grown, you'll need a Donkey Saddle to ride.
You can make one of these in the Leather Gear section of the Bonfire menu, using Leather, Rope, and Linen. While you're riding, a button press will give your mount a speed boost. This is useful for quick travel or getting away from enemies in Soulmask.
