Having a cat in your base is a good way to bring some life into your surroundings. These little creatures roam freely, and they come in all sorts of appearances. If you're keen on adding one to your base, you'll need to gather some supplies and know where to look.

The essentials are straightforward. To catch a cat, you'll require a Small Trap. The recipe is locked away in the Animal Breeding section of the Bonfire menu, but only accessible once you've progressed to the Dawn Of A New Tribe stage. As for construction, you'll need to collect some Branch, Clay, and Thick Rope.

Once you have your trap, you need bait. Cats love Fish, especially Piranha. Head to any body of water and look for them.

You can lure a Piranha to the shore or jump in and use a Hunting Knife to catch it. Just watch out for other animals like a Crocodile while you are fishing in Soulmask.

Finding Cat Locations

There are several places where these animals like to hang out. One reliable spot is near the statue by the large pyramid at Three River Junction.

You can often find them right next to the Mysterious Portal. If you want a Sphinx, check the top of the hill between Barren Sandland and the pyramid on a specific rock formation. In the Sunset Bay region, you can find cats on a high platform within the massive Ruins.

If you are just starting out, check the back corner of the very first Mysterious Ruins you encounter in Sunset Bay near the starter islands; you might see some orange ones there.

The Taming Process

When you find a cat, stay back and crouch down so you do not scare it away. Place your Small Trap on the ground and put one piece of Fish inside. Walk away as far as you can while still keeping an eye on the trap.

The cat will eventually notice the food and run inside. Once the trap closes, the animal is yours. You can pick it up, let it follow you home, or even carry it on your shoulder in Soulmask.

Once you have your cat home, you must keep it healthy. Make sure it always has plenty of Fish and Water to stay fed.

Besides being a cute pet for your house, you can press a button to have it sit on your shoulder while you explore. If you want to put it back down on the ground, just press R and it will hop off.
