Cyberpunk 2077 is back with a bang from CD Projekt Red, and this time, players are really looking forward to it because of all the game-changing updates that are supposed to come out. The "More to Discover" update, which is what Patch 2.3 is officially called, has been released for all platforms except the Nintendo Switch. That system will get it later. Now, Cyberpunk has a lot more frames per second on the PS5 Pro.
Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red just got a big boost, at least if you play it on a PlayStation 5 Pro. With the release of patch 2.3, the ambitious open-world RPG now fully supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). People who played the game noticed the updates right away.

VRR lets the console match your screen's refresh rate on the fly, which stops problems like screen tearing and stuttering when moving quickly. That's a big deal in Cyberpunk 2077's Night City, which is huge and full of action. Both the regular PS5 and the more powerful PS5 Pro can now fully use the feature. However, the PS5 Pro has a bigger improvement.
The biggest change might be that the frame rate caps have been raised. The PS5 Pro is no longer stuck at 60fps when performance mode is chosen and VRR is turned on. And instead, the frame rate of the game can sometimes go as high as 120fps. Cyberpunk 2077 won't always stay at that top speed, but real-life gameplay on the PS5 Pro averages around 81fps, which is a big improvement in smoothness and responsiveness, especially during driving scenes or intense firefights.
Not even regular PS5 users are left out. When VRR is turned on, the average frame rate goes up from 60fps to about 63fps. That may not sound like much, but those few extra frames make a big difference in how the game feels, especially when there is a lot of motion.
Keep in mind that you'll need the right hardware to enjoy these improvements: you'll need an HDMI 2.1 cable and a display that works with VRR. Even if the setting is turned on, you won't be able to see the performance gains without them. This isn't a complete graphical update or a next-gen patch made to work best with PS5 Pro hardware.
Patch 2.3 is only about improving performance and not about making the graphics look better. In any case, the upgrade gives us a taste of what might be possible in the future. Even though CD Projekt Red hasn't said for sure that the enhancements for Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on the last-gen consoles, the company has already made a next-gen patch for The Witcher 3.

But for now, people who own a PS5 Pro have one more strong reason to go back to Night City. The game's improved frame rate and responsiveness make the ride much smoother, whether you're starting new quests or just tearing down neon-lit highways on a futuristic motorcycle.
It's not like Cyberpunk 2077 is brand new, but Patch 2.3 brings it to life, especially if you're playing on Sony's most powerful console yet.
