Not only are fans waiting impatiently for Grand Theft Auto VI, but it seems like multiple publishers are doing the same. Rockstar Games is undoubtedly the market leader, and with GTA 6 expected to be a massive hit, rival developers would be wise to stay out of their path. In addition, a recent article details the plans of other AAA studios in relation to the 2025 release of GTA 6.
Take-Two Interactive has invested so much money into making GTA 6, it's hard to turn a blind eye to it. While we don't know the facts yet, rumor has it that GTA 6's development expenses were the highest of any video game in history. Plus, there are new rumors and articles about the next GTA game appearing almost every week, and despite Rockstar's lack of updates on GTA 6, the excitement about the game has been sky-high. However, GTA 6's 2025 release window, in fact, seems to be a significant challenge for most AAA publishers.
According to a new article in The Game Business, most video game companies are in a state of absolute terror about the impending release of GTA 6. In 2025, a few well-known games will see deliberate postponements or rescheduling of their release dates. Several publishers are taking drastic measures to avoid competing head-to-head on what is supposed to be the most spectacular gaming event of the year, Grand Theft Auto VI, due to the enormous scope of its predicted supremacy.
Fortune 500 companies are openly speaking with The Game Business. A manager at a top game publisher in the world has said that Rockstar Games' games drain the market of time and money. Publishers probably don't care nearly as much about their games. The Game Business went on to say that the publishers have a plethora of ideas for the games, which is great news if Grand Theft Auto finally gets the delay fans are hoping for.
The Financial Times has published a report quoting that GTA 6 is expected to make $3 billion and sell around 40 million units during its first year. It's hard to point a finger at such an assumption, considering the GTA series' enormous popularity and significance to the gaming industry. Released this decade, GTA 6 might easily top all video games in terms of sales. Since Grand Theft Auto V came out in 2013, it has been one of the most anticipated sequels.
If we pay some attention to past analytics, it will only take three days for Grand Theft Auto 5 to reach one billion dollars in sales, according to GameIndustry. Half of the US and two-thirds of the UK total game income in GTA 5's first month came from the game. Still, that's not bad, considering it was only on sale for 50% of the month. According to The Game Business, publishers might refer to a Grand Theft Auto release as "the blast zone," suggesting that other games might not be safe.
While excellent, Grand Theft Auto 6 will dominate the gaming industry in 2025. Some publishers will have to release early or late if they don't want to compete with Rockstar. Since early game releases are highly unlikely, publishers will most likely have to wait for GTA 6 to launch before releasing their games. This is good for those who can't wait for GTA 6, but it won't please the rest of the publishers and developers.
Because every other studio will attempt to avoid releasing their games on the same day as Rockstar, the most obvious result will be a jammed release calendar. Congested releases in a certain period are more likely than a steady stream of varied games throughout the year, which fans may expect. A higher probability of the simultaneous release of several highly anticipated games is associated with these hectic release windows. Sales will take a hit for everyone as a result of the intense battle for player attention.
