Many believe that remakes of Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are in the works after Nintendo renewed the trademarks for both games. Reports of trademark renewals so near to the Nintendo Switch 2's arrival have only added fuel to the fire of speculation among Metroid fans, who are already eager to hear what the future holds for the franchise.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the newest installment in Nintendo's storied action-adventure franchise, will launch for the Switch 2 in 2025, so fans can start getting ready for it. The game was revealed in 2017 and was originally under production at Bandai Namco Studios.
However, in 2019, it was handed over to Retro Studios, which greatly slowed down the development timeframe. During a Nintendo Direct in March 2025, eager players received a thorough peek at the game. The protagonist, Samus Aran, debuted new psychic skills and armor. According to a new story, Metroid fans may have even more reason to celebrate, as the release of the title is supposedly imminent.
Chizai Watch has reported, and Insider Gaming has confirmed, that Nintendo has renewed the trademarks for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Metroid Prime Hunters, suggesting that the popular games could be getting new versions or remakes. With its groundbreaking visuals, Metroid Prime Hunters debuted in 2006 and is widely considered by fans to be among the finest DS spin-off games ever.
The 2007 Wii version of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was well-received by critics and consumers alike, and many considered it to be the best installment in the Prime trilogy. Nintendo may have renewed these trademarks for IP protection purposes only, but the business might soon be planning to release additional Metroid content for its new system.
According to a leak that surfaced in February, MercurySteam, the studio behind Metroid Dread, is supposedly working on a new 2D Metroid game that might be released in 2025, even though many are still suspicious in light of the impending release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, neither confirmation nor denial has been made.
Nintendo may be eager to revive Samus in more ways than one, considering the franchise's enduring popularity even during its most dormant years. On June 5, players will be able to leap into a plethora of action-packed titles, such as Mario Kart World, Yakuza 0 Director's Cut, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, though the latter isn't a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title.
In the next few months, we should have confirmation of when the latest Metroid game will be available for purchase. Since Nintendo is joining Gamescom 2025 and we'll be able to play the game at the event, perhaps there will be hints when the game will launch.
