Alone in the Dark Guide | Sarcophagus Puzzle

In Chapter 3 of Alone in the Dark, you will encounter a challenging Puzzle called the Sarcophagus. This puzzle unlocks the progression forward to Chapter 4, and without solving it, you cannot progress the story any further. This guide will show you how to solve the puzzle.

When you travel to this area after unlocking the safe at the Pregzt warehouse and obtaining the address where Jeremy first encountered the Dark Man, a cutscene involving Jeremy follows, in which the protagonist is trapped in a chamber with few interactive objects. The main attraction here is the Sarcophagus and an Egyptian-style disk on stage.

Understanding The Puzzle Components

Egyptian Disk: This relic is the major clue. It has three concentric sections—outer, middle, and inner—each marked with constellation symbols.  These symbols correspond to numbers, as detailed in Perosi's Journal (located under the Investigation tab).

Commonplace Book: This book contains a drawing of the disk, which reinforces its significance and provides puzzle hints.

Perosi's Journal: This journal provides a cipher that turns constellation signs into numerical values, which is required for deciphering the disk's symbols.

Deciphering the Code

By scrutinizing the disk and consulting Perosi's Journal, players can identify which constellations are relevant: Pisces, Gemini, and Virgo.  Translating these symbols provides the number sequence:

• Outer Section: Pisces = Two
• Middle Section: Gemini = 5
• Inner Section: Virgo equals 8
• Therefore, the code to enter is 2-5-8

Solving the Sarcophagus Puzzle

Insert the Talisman: Approach the tomb and place the talisman in the designated slot.

Input the code:  Adjust the Sarcophagus's parts to fit the code.

• Outer Section: Set to 2
• Middle Section: Set to 5
• Inner Section: Set to 8

Aligning these components correctly will open the tomb, allowing entrance to the Dark Man's Sunken Temple.
