Island Belief directly affects the Devotion level toward your patron god. You increase both Belief and Devotion by meeting the basic needs of your population, constructing religious buildings, and maintaining a positive City Status with the Imperial Governor Concordia.

Meeting Population Needs

You can influence your population's needs by selecting a residence and reviewing the food, clothing, and other requirements listed there. Fulfilling these needs supports Island Belief and contributes to Devotion growth across the island in Anno 117: Pax Romana.

Religious Buildings

Religious buildings play a direct role in raising Devotion. Shrines and Sanctuaries unlock with Plebian citizens, while Mercators require Fanum. You should place these buildings in housing areas so they benefit nearby residents and support both Devotion and Happiness.

You can discover Governor Concordia by sailing near her islands north of Latium. She favors religious allies and may only form relations with you if your island has an assigned patron god. Maintaining this relationship contributes to your City Status and supports Devotion.

Monitoring Devotion Levels

You can check Devotion and Belief by selecting Island Belief from the top bar or opening the Religion tab on the left side of the screen. These values usually match in Anno 117: Pax Romana.

When you change your island to a different god, your devotion returns to zero. It then gradually increases until it aligns with your island's beliefs.

Low Happiness reduces Belief, which limits Devotion growth. You should monitor residences across different population groups, such as Plebeians and Nobles, to identify missing essentials.
