As towns and cities grow, population density increases the risk of disease. To prevent outbreaks and limit how often epidemics occur, you must maintain a high Island Health rating. Health management is a core part of keeping your residents productive and your settlement stable.

Understanding Island Health
You can monitor your island’s Health by checking the Heart icon on the top bar. This panel shows which factors are improving or reducing Health across the island.
Health is closely linked to Happiness, and changes to one often affect the other. Managing both requires attention to resident Needs and building placement.
Resident Needs and Health Effects
Basic resident Needs do more than support income and satisfaction. Goods such as Reed Shoes, Olive Oil, and Soap also contribute directly to resident Health in Anno 117: Pax Romana.

Failing to supply these goods can lower Health, even if other systems are functioning. You should regularly review which Needs are being met to avoid hidden Health penalties.
Building Placement and Health Control
One of the most effective ways to maintain Health is to separate residential zones from production buildings. Structures with negative Health Attributes should be placed away from homes. Since Health and Happiness are affected similarly, isolating harmful buildings helps stabilize both.
Buildings such as charcoal burners cause significant adverse health effects. Other processing buildings, including meat production facilities, can also reduce Health in nearby areas.
Before placing new production buildings, you should check their Attribute effects to avoid harming residential districts in Anno 117: Pax Romana.

Boosting Residential Health
To improve Health in populated areas, you should construct buildings that provide Health bonuses. Medicine helps treat illness and reduce the impact of disease.
Latrines increase general neighborhood Health. Shrines dedicated to your chosen god also provide Health benefits within their area of effect. Placing these buildings near housing ensures more residents receive the Health bonus in Anno 117: Pax Romana.
