Game Guide by Monarch on Jul 09, 2025
With the latest Ark Apocalypse season, the Dracoteuthis has been introduced as a modded creature, bringing unique abilities and gameplay opportunities.
This ARK: Survival Ascended guide will walk you through where to find Dracoteuthis, how to tame it, its abilities, and its roles in your adventures.

Spawns
You can find Dracoteuthis on the Aberration and Extinction maps. It does not spawn on any other maps.
Dracoteuthis typically appears in the red biome and can be spotted with some effort. These creatures spawn alongside a group of Seekers, which can make encounters more challenging. Dracoteuthis is as rare as a Reaper Queen, so expect to spend some time searching. Using a gene scanner and a Rock Drake can help you locate one.
Spawn commands are available if you wish to summon Dracoteuthis directly; simply input the desired level.

Taming
Taming Dracoteuthis presents a challenge due to its spawn conditions. If you have a light pet with you, turn it off before approaching, as Dracoteuthis becomes aggressive in the presence of light. First, eliminate the surrounding Seekers. The taming area is radioactive and populated with Nameless spawns, so bring a reliable shotgun for protection.
Dracoteuthis is tamed nonviolently by placing Charge Lanterns on the ground. The creature will drain charge from these lanterns, destroying them in the process. Once a few lanterns have been destroyed, Dracoteuthis will become passive and sit down, allowing you to feed it Plant Species Z Fruit to complete the taming process.

Abilities
Dracoteuthis brings powerful abilities to the game, making it a must-have for Aberration. Almost all abilities require charge, so always have a charge pet available when using Dracoteuthis.
The creature itself counts as a light pet but does not scare away Nameless or Seekers; however, it deals extra damage to them.
Dracoteuthis can absorb charge from wild creatures to refill its own charge. You can also transfer 10% of your light pet's charge to Dracoteuthis by pressing the left control and right mouse buttons simultaneously.
While under the effect of charge, Dracoteuthis gains increased armor, its melee attacks deal more damage, and it regenerates 5% of its health per second, up to a maximum of 50 HP per second.
One of its most significant abilities is flight; Dracoteuthis is the only creature besides Rock Drake that can fly on Aberration. It can fly forward, left, and right without moving, offering unmatched mobility.
The charge projectile, activated by pressing the left control and left mouse buttons, fires a shot dealing 300 damage and applying a charge stun debuff, temporarily stunning the target. This attack consumes a significant amount of charge.
Roles
Dracoteuthis is very good at moving around and getting Reapers, almost as good as the Rock Drake. It's not as fast, but its ability to fly and move around makes up for it, which makes it useful for getting around the overworld and farming Beacons.

Stats
Dracoteuthis starts with a base of 950 health, 350 stamina, and 360 weight. These stats make it a strong mid-game tame suitable for extended use. Investing levels in health, stamina, and weight is recommended.
Quick Facts
Dracoteuthis can be bred and lays custom eggs, allowing you to see the baby. It does not require a saddle. The creature can absorb the light from Charge Lanterns while standing in their glow.
A new item, the Portable Battery Charger, has been added alongside Dracoteuthis. This device drains element shards and dust from the same inventory while active and charges any batteries present. Note that it cannot be used in the Rockwell boss fight.
