Lenovo looks to be cooking up a really crazy foldable handheld for the near future. Recent leaks suggest the company is working on a device that basically transforms from a laptop into a handheld. It may still be a concept, but knowing Lenovo, something like this could definitely make it to market, as the company has a track record of pushing the envelope with new and innovative devices.

The news first broke over at WindowsLatest.com, where early details about the device began circulating. While it may be a concept device for now, Lenovo has a history of turning ambitious ideas into real products. Looking back at the ThinkPad X1 Fold, it was the world’s first foldable PC.

It featured a flexible OLED screen and allowed users to switch between laptop mode and tablet mode. It was really cool when it was released and was the first of its kind to hit the mass market in a meaningful way.

Lenovo has also introduced impressive innovations in the handheld scene, like the Legion Go with detachable controllers that can switch into FPS mode. While detachable controllers had been seen before from 1XPlayer, Lenovo added something different with the Legion Go and the Legion Go 2. The FPS mode allowed users to use the right controller almost like a mouse for first-person shooters, which was a standout feature.

Then there was the Lenovo C Plus, a concept smartphone device with a fully flexible display designed to be worn around the wrist. It was introduced in 2016 and generated a lot of excitement when images first appeared online. It looked like it could be the future, but it never came to fruition.

Because of that, there is always a chance that we may not see this new foldable device either. However, with so much technology going foldable and manufacturers constantly trying to do something different, this device could very well be on the horizon.

Lenovo Legion Go Fold Design and Display

For now, the device is being referred to as the Lenovo Legion Go Fold. If it truly transforms from a laptop into a handheld, it would likely start in laptop mode. It seems like something like this would include a detachable keyboard, allowing users to switch into a full-screen mode with an 11.6in display.

With controllers attached to the sides, it would function as a large-screen handheld. Since it is a foldable device, the screen would fold right down the middle. Once folded, the display would shrink to around 7.7-inch, creating a smaller and more portable handheld experience. We could attach the controllers to the sides again, creating a compact gaming device that is easier to carry.

Interestingly, leaks also suggest that the right controller may feature a small built-in screen that acts as a touchpad and mouse. Personally, we could probably do without a small screen built into the controller. A standard touchpad like the one found on the Legion Go or Legion Go 2 would likely be more than enough for most users.

Performance and Specifications

According to the leaks, the Lenovo Legion Go Fold could be powered by the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V. We have already seen this chip in the MSI Claw 8 AI, and it performs well. It is on par with something like the Ryzen Z2 Extreme. That said, many of us were hoping to see a Panther Lake chip in a device like this. With the new B390 iGPU, Panther Lake could dominate the handheld scene.

The leaked specs also mention 32GB of RAM and a PLED foldable display ranging from 7.7-inch to 11.6-inch. On paper, that is a solid setup for modern handheld gaming. Intel has been actively updating its ARC drivers, and we have been seeing noticeable performance gains in different games, which only makes this chipset more appealing.

Battery and Market Position

One of the biggest concerns is battery life. Because it is a thin, light, foldable device, the battery is rumored to be around 48Wh. For handheld gamers, battery capacity is always a major factor. While performance matters, many of us would gladly take a larger battery for longer gaming sessions.

When it comes to market positioning, it is not entirely clear where this device would fit. Some handheld gamers prefer smaller screens for portability, while others prefer larger displays for immersive gameplay. The flexibility of using it in laptop mode with an 11.6-inch display and then folding it down into a 7.7-inch handheld could be a major selling point.

If price is not an issue, we have to ask ourselves whether this is something we would genuinely be interested in. Would we use it in laptop mode for productivity and then fold it up when it is time to game? Or would we prefer to leave it in its larger configuration and game on the full 11.6-inch screen? Some of us might skip it entirely in favor of a device with more raw performance and a bigger battery.

At the end of the day, everything still comes down to leaks. However, given Lenovo’s history with bold hardware concepts and foldable technology, it would not be surprising to see something like the Lenovo Legion Go Fold become a reality.
