If you are trying to get Onix in Pokémon Pokopia, the main thing you need is the Smooth Tall Grass Habitat. The process is simple once you know what the game is asking for. You need 1 Smooth Rock and 4 Dry Tall Grass. After that, you can place the habitat near Onix and move forward with the Bulldoze requirement for rebuilding the Pokémon Center.

Where to Find the Smooth Rock

The first item you need is the Smooth Rock. It can be found in the cave area where Onix is located. Check the map in the bottom-left corner and go to the spot near where Onix is hiding. The Smooth Rock is close by, so once you reach the cave, you should not have to look far.

How to Get Dry Tall Grass

After picking up the Smooth Rock, the next step is to make Dry Tall Grass. For this, you need to use a dry area. Avoid places with water or recent rainfall. The goal is to find a patch with dead or dry-looking plants, as watery ground will not yield the desired result.

At first, it may seem like the Leafage upgrade is needed, but it turns out you can do this normally without it. That makes this part easier than it first appears.

How to Make the Smooth Tall Grass Habitat

Once you have the materials, place 4 Dry Tall Grass together, then add 1 Smooth Rock. As soon as the layout is correct, it will create the Smooth Tall Grass Habitat. The key detail here is keeping the setup away from watery ground, since that can stop the habitat from forming properly.

This habitat is what allows you to get Onix, so this is the most important part of the whole process.

How to Use the Habitat for Onix

After the habitat is ready, take it back to where Onix is and place it there. Then talk to Onix. This will unlock a Pokémon with the Bulldoze ability, which you need for the Pokémon Center objective. That is the main reward from this step, and it helps you progress the story.
