Silent Hill 2 Remake | Coin Puzzle Guide [All Difficulties]

With the release of Silent Hill 2, the remake of Konami's most iconic horror game, the company has made a comeback. This game is notorious for having a variety of obscure puzzles that can take up a lot of time from the playthrough, and this Silent Hill 2 Remake sometimes gets carried away with them.

You'll probably consider the Coin Puzzle and Hospital's Box Puzzle to be pretty memorable out of the lot, as they can feel rewarding to complete.

In this particular guide, we'll show you how you can complete the Coin Cabinet Puzzle before you leave the Woodside Apartment so that you can get the Apartment 201 key. There are three primary coins that you will need to collect throughout your playthrough to solve this puzzle. The Coin Cabinet Puzzle is found in Wood Side Apartments, so you will need to arrange the coins in a specific order. You need to arrange the coins regarding the riddle in a certain way. The difficulty of the puzzle is decided by the game difficulty selected at the beginning of the game, and it can take a while. But don't worry, we're here to help!

We are going to show you a step-by-step for each difficulty level as well as how you can find the Coins in the Silent Hill 2 remake.

Where To Find the Man Coin

Where To Find the Woman Coin

You can find it in the garbage chute on the floor 2F. You might not be able to access it for the time being, but as you progress, you'll get the 2F Staircase Key that will allow you to go to the floor above 3F. Make your way to Room 310 and use the balcony to get to Room 312. Then, proceed by going to the left to access the washing room. Use the Canned Juice by picking it up and placing it in the garbage chute. After displacing the coin from the chute, you can pick it up by going down again to floor 1F.

Where To Find the Snake Coin

Snake Coin can be found in the stroller by the stroller by the pool. After getting your hands on the Woman Coin, head into Room 116. You'll meet Eddie there, and after the cutscene, you'll have to slay a few enemies and then make your way onto the stroller.

How To Solve The Coin Puzzle

Coin Puzzle in Light Difficulty

"Three bright coins, three actors in play,

and under the tree, the Maiden dared lay.

And behind the Maiden, where she would not know,

with no one nearby, a Flower would grow.

And then came the Man, so gallant and fine,

in the pale moonlight light did his golden eyes shine."

All right, from this, we can deduce that the Woman Coin is the center. The Snake Coin will go to the right, flipped on its flower side, and at the left, we will place the Man Coin. So, it's Man – X – Woman – X – Flower.

"The Man draws his Blade, and she froze in fear,

for she did not know the Serpent drew near."

The order stays the same here; you just flip the coin to the preferred side. The Man gets flipped to a sword, and the Flower gets flipped to the snake. So, it's Sword – X – Woman – X – Snake.

"The venomous beast is now lost to the night,

the grand chevalier's grand despair in daylight,

and under the tree, where the Maiden dared lay,

a memory now lies, confined to a Grave."

This time around, we'll be shifting the Man Coin to the extreme left. After we flip it, we'll move the Snake Coin to the extreme left on the Snake side. So, it's Snake—X—Grave—X—Man.

" The Beast who its teeth in her flesh doth bore,

He who has failed, She who is no more.

Now you pass the judgment on figures of play,

Which here is the sinner, which carries the blame?"

Depending on how you feel, you can move a Coin up the slot; it really is up to you. After completing it, you should get your desired Apartment 201 key, which is vital for the progression of the game.

Coin Puzzle in Standard Difficulty

"Three bright coins in the five holes be,

first sits the Maiden underneath the tree.

The wind from behind the Maiden doth blow,

a beautiful Flower alone has to grow.

And here comes the Man, so sleek and so fine,

in the pale moonlight his eyes doth shine."

From this, we know that to place the Woman coin in the middle, we'll place the Man on the extreme left and the Snake Coin on the extreme right on its flower side. So, it's Man – X – Woman – X – Flower.

"The Man doth approach, his Blade now revealed,

his face disappears behind shining steel.

Away from the Man doth the Maiden flee,

towards the Flower, away from the tree."

Here, we flip the Man Coin on its Sword side and move it right once closer to the center since he is approaching the Maiden; the Snake Coin with the flower side stays on the extreme right and moves the Woman Coin once to the right as she is moving toward the Flower. So it's X – Sword – X – Woman – Flower.

"Where once grew a Flower, a venomous glee,

where once was a Maiden, but a stone doth be.

And over her Grave the Man doth remain,

his Blade never met the vile Serpent's vein."

We flip the Flower of the Snake Coin back into the snake. Place the Man Coin in the center and then flip the Woman Coin into the gravestone. So, it's X – X – Man – Grave – Snake.

"The Beast who its teeth in her flesh doth bore,

He who has failed, She who is no more.

Now unto you falls a grievous chore; who carries the blame for what fate had in store?"

Pick whichever one you want and move it up, but do keep in mind that your decisions will affect the outcome of the game. After completing it, you should get your desired Apartment 201 key, which is vital for the progression of the game.

Coin Puzzle in Hard Difficulty

"Three bright coins, three actors in play,

yet within the shade, not one doth remain.

The one once so gallant had fled from day's sheen,

as far as he could from the icon of sin.

The one whom he swore to shield in her life

now lays in a grave, away from his sight."

Here, the Man is the 'gallant', and he is as far away as he can be from the snake, so place the Man Coin on the extreme left. Following that, by placing the Snake Coin on the extreme right, since the person the Man was supposed to protect is away from his sight, we can say that the Woman Coin (gravestone side) is beside the Snake Coin on the right. So, it's Man – X – X – Grave – Snake.

"His Blade strikes that which from the roots doth

rise, followed by guilt and the mark of demise.

The life he once had he has left behind,

where once there was love, now a stone resides."

Flip the Man Coin to the sword and place it in the left of the center, and turn the Snake Coin to the Flower as the sinner has died, move it to the center, and place the gravestone on the left of the sword. So, it's Grave – Sword – Flower – X – X.

"He kneels by the crown that casts a cruel shade

onto the visage of her, who did fade.

By them not a soul, not a sight, nor sound,

and yet, evil slithers upon radiant ground."

Move the Snake Coin to the far right near the sun. Finally, place the Woman Coin and the Man Coin in the center with the Man Coin on the left as he kneels. So, it's X – Man – Woman – X – Snake.

"The best that from death and decay had spawned,

He who has failed, She who's now beyond.

Now you pass the judgment on figures of play

and choose where the burden of sin doth lay."
