Silent Hill 2 Guide | How to Unlock the Chained Box

Here’s how you can unlock the Chained Box in Brookhaven Hospital Otherworld in the Silent Hill 2 Remake.

With the release of Silent Hill 2, a remake of Konami's best-known horror game, the company is back in business. This game is known for having a lot of hard, confusing puzzles that can take a long time to solve, and the Silent Hill 2 remake sometimes gets too carried away with them. The Coin Puzzle and the Hospital's Box Puzzle are likely to stick out in your mind because they're fun to complete. We'll show you how to unlock the Chained Box in this guide.

Located in Room L3 of the Brookhaven Hospital Otherworld, it is one of the more important puzzles in the game, as you need it to progress through the story. To solve the code, you’ll need to following things:

Keypad Code
Combination Lock Code
Lapis Eye Key

How to Get the Keypad Code

To retrieve the Keypad Code, you’ll need to head to the second-floor Laundry Room in the Hospital. Break the wall on the South Hallway and enter. Once you’re in, push the cabinet on the exit and grab the cart in the corner. Follow that by placing the cart underneath the window so that you can make it up to the room.

Head to the Observation Room and get your hands on the Director’s Office Key. Using the key, get inside the Office and go up the ladder to Room 17, which is on the third floor. You’ll spot a Treatment Stretcher there. Leave the Room and go to the room beside the elevator. When you enter, you’ll need to activate a Generator inside.

After activating the Generator, go to Room 17 again and turn on the Treatment Stretcher. You’ll see a bunch of numbers on the Stretcher, which will be the code for the keypad.

Once you return to the room with the Chained Box, enter the Keypad Code 9659

How to Get the Combination Lock Code

To get the Combination Lock code, you’ll first need to make your way to the second-floor Restroom and go inside the L1 Room, then to the M3 Room, where you’ll need to break the wall; upon breaking the wall, enter the M2 Room. You’ll see a bunch of clues for the locked code there—pick up the Calendar Page memo; it’ll be helpful.

After you’re done, count the number of pills in the sink—this will give you the second digit of the code.

If you look around, you’ll see a hole in the wall where there is graffiti that says “Watch it go dark”; you need to count the number of times the light blinks for the fourth digit.

You’ll spot a clock in the M1 Room, interact with the clock, and set the clock hand to 2 o’clock; you’ll need to fight off a few enemies after that.

Once you’re done, go back to the Chained Box and enter the code 1622.

How to Get the Lapis Eye Key

To get the Lapis Eye Key, you’ll need to make your way to the second-floor Women’s Locker Room via the Nurses' Lounge. From there, take the stairs up to the third floor. Next, go to Exam Room 4, collect the Instrument of Force, and use it on the medical doll on the chair.

Head to the Northwest Corner on the map, then break the wall so that you can get inside Room D2, climb down the ladder, and go to the first-floor Pantry. Make your way to the room to the south of the stairs; you’ll spot the Key of Bliss. Go to the medical doll and use the Key of Bliss on it to retrieve the Lapis Eye Key.
