After defeating Utika in the main mission, 'Spring and Fall,' you'll be prompted to kill or spare him at the end of the boss fight.

Kill Utika

If you decide to kill Utika, he'll accept his fate and let Naoe kill him without reading the stanza.

Spare Utika

If you decide to spare Utika, he'll recite the stanza and will ask Naoe to pass it to his son, and will willingly tell Naoe to kill him for the safety of his son.

Since either of the choices makes no difference, and Utika dies in both choices, you can choose to spare him if you want to get an additional dialogue option when you confront Utika's son.
