Metaphor: ReFantazio Guide | How to Avoid Every Bad Ending

While they luck much substance, you still might want to avoid them

Metaphor: ReFantazio comes with four very distinct endings, and after playing through the pretty long JRPG, you might find yourself not wanting to find the bad ones. That or you are one of the folks looking to experience everything and see all the endings. Out of the four endings, one can be considered a good ending, while the rest are variations of bad endings.

Note that the good ending can have slight variations depending on the path you chose and the relation between you and your companions, but overall, the outline remains the same.

To access the bad endings, you can just save the game before the major decisions that come attached to the endings so that you can rewind and move on. This allows you to pass through the endings all in one go. They are also pretty obvious and hard to miss.

The first bad ending you encounter will be with Louis on 9/26 during the story’s somewhat fake endgame. After a pretty lengthy and hard dungeon, you will meet Louis, who goes on with the usual villain monologue. Now, if you’re smitten by his words, you are given the option to join him.

He actually asks you to join him. By simply selecting a dialogue option, you can throw away all your progress and story and come to a sudden halt where your companions are surprised but end up agreeing, and the game prematurely ends.

The second bad ending happens right after this fight when you travel to a secret village and discover a very, very, very earth-shattering secret. Without spoiling it, you will be at a crossroads in your destiny. You will understand one of the key things in your identity and realize an important truth. If you accept this truth, you will move on in the game, but you may deny it. If you deny your destiny, you will get your second ending, where the game again abruptly ends.

The third and final bad ending comes right before you fight the game’s final boss. It is a mind-warp moment that takes you to the Akademeia right as you are about to die and offers you an out. You can abandon this reality, which is supposedly fake, and enter the real world. Of course, as the protagonist, you realize all of it is wrong. You are given the choice to take the easy way out or say no and return to your world.

None of these endings are particularly flashy or have much going for them, but if you weave through and avoid them, you will get the pretty exhaustive ending with a very long epilogue where you fast-forward a year and see the effects of your actions as well as reconnect with your companions.
