To get a head start, you should learn how to improve your gear before you dive too deep into the game. After you clear the first Crucible area, you gain entry to the Eternal Rift. This is the spot where you meet your Blacksmith.

Talk to her right away to start a specific quest. You need to head over to Lake Sanaru and look for the Maisaka Post on the far western island. Grab the item there and return it to her. This step is what opens up all the tools you need for your equipment.

How Crafting Works

As you travel, you will pick up different Recipes. These allow you to build new gear from scratch. If you need a fresh weapon, just hand the Blacksmith the materials she wants. She can craft a basic Blue item for you whenever you need a boost in Nioh 3.

You can make Consumables too, but it might be better to hold off on that. Resources are tight when you first start out. Make sure to sell some of your extra loot for Gold instead of breaking it all down. You will need a lot of money to keep your gear updated.

Boosting Power with Soul Orbs

The most useful tools you have are Soul Extract and Soul Match. If you have a weapon you aren't using, you can pull a Yellow Soul Orb out of it.

You then take those orbs and put them into a weapon you actually like, such as the Vermillion Switch in Nioh 3.

This raises the level of the weapon and makes it hit harder. Your own character level doesn't stop you from doing this. If you find a weapon with a good trait, like Additional Melee Damage or Life Recovery for Amrita, you can keep it strong throughout your entire journey.

Using Plus Items and Changing Stats

Keep an eye out for weapons that have a plus sign in the name. When you extract souls from those, you get Blue Soul Orbs.

These are what you use to give your gear a plus rank for even more damage. Once a weapon hits +1, you can start changing the stats on it in Nioh 3.

This is great because you can take a weapon with a solid Implicit and swap out the other bonuses until they fit your style. This lets you use a level 70 weapon to blast through a level 36 area with ease.
