Here's a guide on how to use lamp in Windrose.

The caves of the first island in Windrose are difficult to be navigated, being very dark. You will discover that you can not see copper veins or treasure chests in the absence of a light source. The first point of concern is to get your first light because you do not lose your momentum in the process of exploration.
This guide will tell you where to get your very first lamp, how to collect the fuel necessary to keep it going and how to use your work station to refill it before you get back into the night.

Finding Your First Lamp
Your first light is free, but you have to go to a particular location on the starting island. Go to the Pirate Remains, east of the Coastal Jungle. Find a Decrepit Chest and a boat. Once you open it, you will see a Lamp, a weapon and a Blurry Sketch of the Island. You have a Cache near, too, where a Fast Travel Bell is, which you must take at the same time. Picking up the original will also unlock the recipe to make an Empty Lamp at your Workbench with 4 Copper Ingots and 1 Rope.
How to Refill Your Fuel
The light that you have will be empty and you will see a bar on the icon in your inventory indicating that it has no fuel. To fill it, you will have to gather 3 pieces of Animal Fat and bring them to your Workbench. Go to the station and open the menu, and change to the Refill/Repair tab. This is the second menu tab that people overlook since it is not the default tab. Choose your light in the list and verify the action to burn your fat and fill the fuel bar up to 100%.

Farming Animal Fat from Boars
You must hunt some of the animals that you can eat to keep your light burning. Beginning on the island whence you have come you may well seek a Boar or a Sow, and you may well find him close at hand near the Smuggler's Cache. When you beat these animals, they tend to drop one piece of Animal Fat.
You will find a Savage Boar or a Charging Boar, as you pass to the islands in the south and southeast. These are more fierce, yet they lose two or three chunks of fat per time. They also provide you with Rough Hide, which can be used in various other crafting recipes at your base.
How to operate Multiple Lamps on Long Trips
The small caves at the beginning only require one light, but as you venture further you may want to bring along more. The more extensive systems of the caves on the farther islands can burn your fuel before you are done mining or plundering.

When you have two or three lamps you can afford to remain down longer, without having to row away over to your base to refill them. You can make an Empty Lamp quite cheaply, and it is a pleasant thing to have some on hand at all times, when you have a reliable stock of Animal Fat on the hunt.
