In Windrose, the mission Eyes Wide With Fear provides you with a fragment of a diary and an assurance that there is gold buried nearby. You do not get a precise position on your map and so you must rely on the traces left by a non-survivor. Although the islands are different each time you play, you always hunt the way you discover this chest.

All you need to do is to find the right area by looking at the points of interest on your island. This guide will help you locate the fragments and how to excavate with the Madman's Chest in the most efficient way possible without wasting your time.

Beginning with the Hunt and Reading the Diary

This mission consists of two sections that you have to complete sequentially. The first one is to locate a chest on the island containing Diary Fragments. When you have these, take out your Journal and read them in order to refresh your goals. Then there will be a blue marker on your map to guide you to the burial site. This will be where on the same island you had the remains of the survivor. Before you go you must have a Shovel in your bag, which you can make on a Workbench with 3 Copper Ingots and 10 bits of Wood.

Locating the Dig Spot and Shovel-Use

As you come up to the blue marker, you will notice a bunch of Skeletons lying on the ground in between some big trees. The chest is concealed in the middle of these bones under the dirt. When walking along the middle of the cluster, have a look at the ground and you will see a sparkle effect. This glitter informs you that you are on the treasure. Ensure your Shovel is in Dig mode, rather than weapon mode. When you do not find a prompt to dig, bring yourself nearer to the densest part of the pile of bones until the chest comes into view.

Narrowly Escape the Ambush and Collect Rewards

Unleashing the chest will make a number of the Drowned enemies come up to the ground and assault you immediately. These are far tougher than the enemies you have encountered in the tutorial, and you should be prepared to fight a tough battle. It is clever to carry 3 or 4 Healing Potions or even a Great Healing Potion to live. Before you commence this mission, you should also attempt to sharpen your Copper Axe and Pickaxe. Wait till all the enemy is killed before you attempt to seize the objects, or you may meet your death in the presence of your treasure.

Quest Rewards and Crafting Materials

After the fight is won, you are allowed to loot the chest in order to come away with your prizes. You will have Guinea money and a little Silver Ingots, which will be of great use in your early work. You may have a Tumbaga Ingot and a List of Essentials. This task will also reward you with 100 Experience points to assist in leveling up. The materials are valuable in crafting superior equipment, and thus this quest is worth the danger. But be sure to bring your Smelting Furnace to the base so that you can make the tools you want in prospective digs.
