Here's a guide explaining all the consequences of choosing to fight or finish reading in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Before you start the boss fight with Utika in the 'Spring and Fall' primary mission in Assassin's Creed: Shadows, you'll be prompted to choose whether to fight him immediately or let him finish reading a stanza.

Choosing Fight Now

If you choose this option, the boss fight will start immediately without giving him the chance to read the stanza.

Choosing Finish Reading

If you choose this option, he'll finish reading the stanza, start the boss fight, and unlock an option when you return to Utikas Son.

Although either option starts the boss fight, you can let him finish his reading if you want additional cutscenes when you return to his son.
