The much-anticipated live-action God of War show on Amazon is finally making big steps forward. New report says that shooting will start in March 2026 in Vancouver, Canada. Casting for the project is already going on.

Based on a popular series of games developed by Sony Santa Monica, the show will be run by Ronald D. Moore, who is best known for his work on For All Mankind, Outlander, and Battlestar Galactica. Moore will not be working alone; he is bringing a powerful group of writers with experience from both science fiction and fantasy TV shows.

Some confirmed writers are:

  • Matthew Graham
  • Stephanie Shannon
  • K. Shankar
  • Joe Menosky
  • Marc Bernardin
  • Tania Lotia

Based on the list, it looks like Amazon is taking the adaptation very seriously. They want to make a story that honors the games' deep lore while also being a high-class TV show.

Moore just recently talked about the project's progress at San Diego Comic-Con.

"We're writing the scripts now. We're still writing stories. Things are going really well. Our group is strong. What I've been reading has been very interesting. I've never made a movie based on a video game. I was amazed at how broad and deep the story in this video game was as I dug deeper into it."

Moore's words show that he enjoys the show's rich Norse and Greek-inspired lore, which suggests that the show will stay true to the source material instead of making it up from scratch.

Fans still have one question: which part of the series will the show adapt first? Many people are wondering if the show will start with God of War (2018), the Norse tale, or if there will be flashbacks to Kratos' violent Greek past. Fans think that the show might use parts of the earlier story in the same way that the 2018 game and its follow-up, Ragnarok, did.

Getting hired is another hot topic. Who will play Kratos, the famous Ghost of Sparta? In flashbacks, will the show a younger form of the character, or will it only show the older, worn-out Kratos from the Norse games? Amazon hasn't said who will be cast yet, but people are very excited.

Fans may have to wait a long time to see Kratos on screen since the movie isn't set to come out until 2026. It looks like Moore will do a great job, and the writing team is full of talented people. This could be one of Amazon's biggest gaming-to-TV projects yet.
