Every year, we get the rumor of a PlayStation State of Play in February, and this year is no different. But it seems like we might actually have a solid date this time. Over the past day or two, the chatter has been building, and insiders are back at it, stirring up conversations in the gaming world.
Originally, all we knew was that it would be sometime in February, which honestly isn’t surprising. Every year around this time, PlayStation tends to drop a State of Play, so it’s not any breaking news.

Then one of the top insiders apparently confirmed the exact day. When someone asked whether it would be the 10th or the 12th, he said it’s the 12th, which is a Thursday. Valentine’s Day lands on that Saturday, so it fits perfectly. Jeff Grubb also backed this up, saying it’s happening the week of the 12th.
Normally when people say "the week of," they mean the Monday, but he seems to be pointing right at the 12th itself. With both of these insiders saying the same thing, it’s looking pretty likely that February 12th is the real deal for the State of Play.
Now, is this a State of Play to get excited about? Generally, any State of Play has something worth checking out, though some are more thrilling than others.
This State of Play seems like it will lean heavily on third-party games. Looking at the timing, it’s probably a spring-summer preview session, showcasing games releasing from March through June. These don’t necessarily need to be games with confirmed release dates. For example, a 007 game seems likely to show up simply because it’s close to release.
Expect a mix of titles you’ve seen before but don’t have release dates, alongside brand-new games you’ve never seen. This year, if we’re looking at around 50 notable games, maybe only 15 have release dates, so a lot of games are still unannounced in terms of timing.
On the first-party side, God of War seems like the obvious pick. Wolverine, on the other hand, is expected to get its own dedicated State of Play in the spring, so it might be left for later. PlayStation could show a small teaser for Wolverine while announcing the date of its own State of Play, but God of War seems more likely to headline the February session.
Other first-party options include Marathon, which is close to release, and Saros, which is already wrapping up in April.
Honestly, we’ve seen enough of Saros, so it’s unclear whether they would feature it again, but God of War and Wolverine seem like the most likely candidates if PlayStation sticks to their game plan.
Third-party games will likely cover anything coming out between March and June, maybe stretching to July. In addition to 007, there could be other mid-sized titles like Lego Batman. Most of the lineup will probably feature games you haven’t heard of before, with a few known titles sprinkled in to get attention.

If the State of Play is on the 12th, PlayStation could announce it Monday or Tuesday of that week.
Either way, within the next two weeks, we should have a confirmed date and maybe even a teaser of what’s coming. From what insiders are saying, it seems likely that this February State of Play will actually happen.
