Dynasty Warriors: Origins is one of the bold steps taken in this already beloved series, which clearly deviates from norms and ideas that have emerged and entertained for several decades in the hack-and-slash genre. This guide tackles the three significant stages: the Assassination of Dong Zhuo, Sishui Gate, and Hulao Gate. Let’s Begin.
Assassination of Dong Zhuo
This stage creates intense suspense as Lu Bu relentlessly pursues you. Your objective is to defeat Jia Xu and Zhang Liao, who block your progression through the level. While it’s possible to eliminate them immediately, I opted for a strategic approach.
For your setup, equip a strong weapon with high-damage Battle Arts, Wellspring Gem, attack and defense boosts, Bravery buffs, and plenty of meat buns for healing.
Begin by defeating Huang Gai quickly to build some distance from Lu Bu. Use bravery or attack buffs if necessary. Move to the Eastern Side of the Map with Sun Jian, clearing the shield-bearers and enemies near Dong Min. Skip minor enemies and rush to the jail cells, defeating the officer guarding them to release prisoners who’ll distract Lu Bu.
Once Zhang Liao is taken care of, head back toward Jia Xu. If Lu Bu closes in, avoid engaging him directly—his attacks can devastate Sun Jian, risking mission failure. Utilize nearby meat buns for healing if needed. Employ the Encourage tactic to reduce Jia Xu’s morale and weaken surrounding enemies. After Jia Xu is defeated, returns to the central area to lure Lu Bu toward the freed prisoners. Eliminate any remaining gate guards and secure the escape route by defeating Gao Shun. Wait for Sun Jian to cross the final threshold to complete the mission.
Sishui Gate
The Sishui Gate battle is one of the trickiest stages in this set. The objective is to ensure at least 13 Officers survive by the end of the battle. Adjust your setup to include a morale boost alongside bravery and attack buffs to counter morale drops caused by enemy generals.
At the start, bypass your initial base and let your allies handle it. Proceed directly to the top-right zone near the castle, taking out the weaker general stationed there. Avoid assisting Sun Jian or Yuan Shu initially, as they can divert attention from the central battlefield.
Focus on reducing the health of non-buffed enemies and move quickly between zones where allies are struggling. Watch for teardrop icons on the map, which indicate officers in low health. Prioritize supporting these allies to ensure their survival.
Once the central area is cleared, capture nearby bases to boost morale. Finish the mission by rallying with the main force and eliminating the ambush reinforcements. With proper attention to morale and efficient use of buffs, you should be able to meet the challenge requirements.
Hulao Gate
The final challenge in this set is straightforward: defeat Lu Bu. Thankfully, this isn’t the most powerful version of him, making the task less intimidating. Choose Xiahou Dun as your companion, and equip your strongest weapon—ideally one with a devastating battle art like Divine Eagle Dance.
Begin by clearing the bases on the right side, including defeating Zhang Liao. Allies may advance without you, so clear out enemies quickly to maintain control. Only engage Lu Bu after he descends to the area where Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei are waiting.
During the fight with Lu Bu, use bravery and attack buffs strategically. Avoid wasting your True Musou, as Lu Bu does not trigger a final Ultimate Musou at the end of his health bar in this version. Focus on depleting his fortitude bar efficiently with high-damage battle arts and tactics like Encourage. Stay calm, and don’t switch characters out of panic—use your full arsenal before considering such options.
Once Lu Bu is defeated, the remainder of the map becomes straightforward. Finish capturing bases and support your allies to complete the stage.
These three stages each present unique challenges, but with preparation and strategy, they’re all manageable. Use morale-boosting tactics, efficient battle arts, and focus on the objectives to secure victory.
