This quick guide will help ensure you don’t miss the opportunity to rescue Xun You during the Assassination of Dong Zhuo Mission when you're on Cao Cao's side.
At the beginning of this mission, Lu Bu stands right in front of you, fully motivated and ready to fight. You're meant to avoid him and not engage in combat. However, if you decide to fight him and reduce his health to about 25%, he will retreat. This action lowers the morale of all enemy forces across the map, making the mission significantly easier.
Keep in mind that you need to do this quickly because Cao Cao is fighting someone during this time. If he loses, you’ll have to restart the mission. So, speed is crucial. If you succeed, you’ll also get unique dialogue, which adds an interesting twist. The morale drop causes most enemy forces to become weaker, either at normal levels or with reduced strength, which makes the rest of the mission more manageable. This is probably the largest morale drop you’ll see in the game.
Now, looking at the map, when you reach the final area close to the escape point, you’ll notice two paths. The main central path is at level one, while the other, which I took, is at level two. Below you are the escape point. To rescue Xun You, go to the opposite end of the room from the escape point and pass through the door. You’ll see emblems marking prison cells.
When you get there, a cutscene will play, and you’ll need to defeat one officer to open the gates. Once you do this, you’ll have rescued Xun You. Afterward, you won’t have to worry about him being defeated. He’ll attack the enemy forces and even convert some guards to his side. If you leave some guards alive, he’ll turn them into allies.
After you save him, Xun You will thank you and explain that everyone imprisoned here resisted Dong Zhuo. They all share a common enemy and wish to cooperate. He’ll also express gratitude and offer his help immediately. This marks the start of your relationship with him, which might be necessary for bonding with his character.
And that’s it! The rest of the mission involves escorting him to safety. Don’t miss this opportunity to unlock a key character moment.
